The Champions League group stage reached the halfway point this week, and some of Europe's finest are beginning to hit their stride in this season's competition - none more so than our select XI here.
Celtic's Fraser Forster retains his place in goal after another fine display for the Scottish champions, with Lasse Schone's stunning late strike the only effort out of Ajax's total of nine to find its way past him. Paris Saint-Germain's Gregory van der Wiel edges out Emmanuel Eboue for the right-back spot, with two assists and a clean sheet in his side's rout of Anderlecht. Philippe Mexes earns a place following an assured display against Barcelona as AC Milan battled to a draw, with Virgil van Dijk partnering him after his strong showing versus Ajax. David Alaba - once more on the scoresheet for the rampant Bayern Munich - completes the defence.
Bayer Leverkusen skipper Simon Rolfes earns a place in midfield after inspiring his side to a stunning 4-0 win over Shakhtar Dontesk. He is partnered by Nuri Sahin, who dictated proceedings at the Emirates Stadium in arguably his finest display since rejoining Borussia Dortmund in the win over Arsenal. Further forward sits Franck Ribery, who added yet more weight to his Ballon d'Or hopes with a scintillating display against Viktoria Plzen, capped off with a mazy run and clever finish in a 5-0 thrashing.
In attack, Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to the Team of the Week after his remarkable four goals in the win in Belgium. He is joined by Bayer Leverkusen's star No.9 Stefan Kiessling, who scored twice and set up another in a strong showing against Shakhtar, while Fernando Torres edges his way in after two well-taken finishes and a feisty all-round display as Chelsea sealed a 3-0 win over Schalke.
